Lifting & Installation Procedure – Sheet Piles
-
Inspect sheet piles and lifting gear
– Check sheet piles for bends, cracks, or damage.
– Inspect lifting chains, shackles, and lifting accessories for valid certification and visible wear. -
Attach correct lifting accessories
– Use a certified sheet pile lifting clamp, pitch-and-pull device, or 2-leg chain sling with shackles (as per site-specific plan).
– Back-hook unused chain legs to the master ring. -
Test lift for balance
– Lift the sheet pile slightly to ensure secure grip and alignment.
– Adjust clamp or chain positioning if the pile tilts or shifts. -
Lift and position carefully
– Use tag lines to control swing and rotation.
– Keep all personnel clear of the load and exclusion zone.
– Position the pile vertically above the driving point. -
Install safely
– Lower the pile slowly into the guide frame or ground position.
– Ensure alignment with adjacent piles for interlocking.
– Release lifting accessories only when the pile is stable and secured.
Safety Tips & Best Practices
-
Inspect lifting gear and sheet piles for cracks, bends, or defects before every lift.
-
Use certified lifting clamps or chains designed specifically for sheet piles.
-
Ensure lifting angles are within safe limits (<90° included angle) to avoid overloading chain legs.
-
Keep hands and body clear of interlock points during positioning.
-
Use tag lines to control swing and rotation of the sheet pile.
-
Always maintain an exclusion zone around the lifting and driving area.
-
Check ground stability and guide frames before starting installation.
-
Ensure correct interlock alignment to prevent damage during driving.
-
Communicate clearly between the lifting team and machine operator at all times.
-
Never stand under or near suspended sheet piles.
