Lifting & Installation Procedure – Concrete Skip

  • Pre-Lift Inspection
    – Visually inspect the skip, lifting points, and bale arm for any signs of damage or wear.
    – Ensure the chute is closed and secured with jubilee clips.
    – Clear any debris from the skip exterior and underside.

  • Attach Lifting Chains
    – Use a certified drop chain connected to the designated lifting point.
    – Ensure the lifting gear is correctly rated, in good condition, and not twisted or kinked.
    – Unused chain legs (if present) must be secured to the master link.

  • Initial Lift & Balance Check
    – Raise the skip slightly to check load balance and tension across all lifting points.
    – Do not proceed if the skip is tilting or unstable.

  • Controlled Lifting & Movement
    – Lift slowly and steadily to avoid sudden movement.
    – Expect slight swing or crane deflection—use a tag line to assist with control.
    – Keep all personnel at a safe distance during the lift.

  • Positioning & Discharge
    – Lower the skip onto stable, level ground.
    – Concrete skips are self-levelling—no manual adjustment is needed.
    – Ensure the working area is clear before discharge and that the chute operates freely.

Safety Tips & Best Practices

  • Inspect Before Use
    – Check lifting points, bale arm, and chute for damage, wear, or corrosion.
    – Ensure the chute is closed and secured with jubilee clips before lifting.

  • Use Correct Lifting Gear
    – Only use certified lifting chains and drop chains rated for the skip’s weight.
    – Do not use damaged, kinked, or untested equipment.

  • Keep Clear During Lifting
    – Never stand under or near the skip while it's being lifted or lowered.
    – Use tag lines to control swing and prevent uncontrolled movement.

  • Watch for Swing & Deflection
    – As the loaded skip is lifted, crane deflection can cause swing—lift slowly and stay alert.
    – Maintain a clear exclusion zone around the lift area.

  • Safe Handling During Discharge
    – Concrete skips are self-levelling—no adjustment is required during tipping.
    – Make sure the landing area is clear, level, and capable of supporting the load.
    – Keep hands and feet away from moving parts to avoid crush injuries.
